Mission
To equip Australians aged 15 to under 25 with rigorous, hands-on education in fermentation science, brewing engineering, sensory analysis and product design — and to do so in a safe, inclusive and rigorously governed environment.
Established in October 2023 in Clayton, Victoria, Brewlab Holdings Incorporated is an Australian charity created to give young people meaningful, hands-on STEM education through fermentation science and brewing engineering.
Brewlab began as a student-driven initiative at Monash University's Clayton campus, born out of a simple observation: students across engineering, science, design and business were curious about fermentation, food technology and the craft beverage sector — but had no practical way in.
By the time Brewlab Holdings Incorporated was formally established on 24 October 2023, it had grown into Australia's first student-led nano-brewery operating in a tertiary research environment. The Incorporated Association was set up to formalise governance, child-safety practices, and the educational mission of the project.
Today, our nano-brewery in Alliance Lane, Clayton, functions as a teaching laboratory: a living, working environment where young people can apply chemistry, microbiology, engineering, design and business skills to a real product, with real consequences and real learning.
Brewlab Holdings Inc has a single charitable purpose: to advance the education of young Australians. Everything we do flows from that.
To equip Australians aged 15 to under 25 with rigorous, hands-on education in fermentation science, brewing engineering, sensory analysis and product design — and to do so in a safe, inclusive and rigorously governed environment.
A generation of young Victorians confident in STEM-based food and beverage careers, leading research, manufacturing, hospitality, sustainability and innovation across Australia's fastest-growing sectors.
Through workshops, structured training, mentoring, industry engagement and the safe, supervised operation of a student-run educational nano-brewery — all governed by an unpaid volunteer committee.
Our charity is based on the grounds of Monash University's Clayton campus, in Melbourne's south-east. Co-locating with one of Australia's leading research universities gives our young participants access to laboratory equipment, expertise and safety culture that simply isn't available to most community groups.
Our registered address is 17 Alliance Lane, Clayton VIC 3168. Programs are run on-site, in partnership with Monash University, in spaces approved for educational and research use.
Although our beneficiaries are youth across Victoria, the practical nature of our programs means most learning happens in person, at the Clayton campus.
Brewlab Holdings Inc is publicly listed on the ACNC Charity Register and is subject to the reporting, governance and safeguarding obligations that come with that status.
